First issue for a first time reviewer. Thank you Goblin King for a chance to prove my worth :-). Well let’s start: 3 Corps is written by John Daniel Taylor IV and Samir Simao in collaboration with Jay Moyano as an artist and released by Top Secret Press. First impression I got when I saw the cover of this new Top Secret Press release was that it reminded me of Über comic series from Avatar Press written by Kieron Gillen (which I recommend as a must read); and that’s not a bad thing, not at all. It gave me a taste of what’s waiting for me inside: great action, super powered soldiers fighting each other to bits, godlike powers that make you feel insignificant and small. And guess what – it is exactly what they delivered! Don’t get me wrong, this comic is not a major player like Über, but with time and effort it has the potential to become a worthy contestant in the world of modern comics. I like and approve the use of computer graphics to enhance the drawings when it comes to making powers stand out on pages and give them the edge that they need. Some purists might disagree with me but, let’s face it: we are all spoiled by the technology and the effects of movies and video games so I say: Go for it! As long as you don’t overdo it. And they didn’t. There’s is enough of effects to make the fights look more powerfull and not too much to overshadow the drawings and spoil the feeling of a comic book. There are some birth pains which I won’t mention since making a story come to life as a comic is a lot of work and if it were easy everyone would do it, including me :-). The story is pretty straightforward: In the old times after death of his son Icarus, Daedalus driven by grief and rage created a weapon called Daedalus spear. After that short history intro we are thrown on the streets of modern Rio De Janiero where army is trying to stop someone from entering the city. I won’t tell you what happens next so that I don’t spoil your reading, but I’ll give you a hint: That’s the moment when the action starts. Since it’s just the first issue you get the feeling of powers they wield and some of the characters, and they leave you with indications of more to come. There is involvement of army maybe some conspiracy too, and a scientists group called Axiom on the other side. Both sides have their enhanced humans which wreak havoc in the city of Rio De Janiero. I like the ambiguity, since none of them strike me as good side or bad side, both are just chasing their interests and couldn’t care less about the destruction they’re causing around them. Information we get about them is pretty vague and personally I would have liked a bit more,…
